Make an animated GIF from a set of images or a clip of a video. Set the delay of each frame, the width, colors and loop count, then download it. Frames are extracted and encoded in your browser, so your files are not uploaded. Up to 300 frames per GIF.
The GIF Maker creates animated GIF files in your browser. Use numbered images or photos as frames, or cut a short clip out of a video, adjust the timing and size, and download the result. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
frame2 comes before frame10).animation.gif.If you change the frames or settings after creating, click Create GIF again to update the result.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Width (px) | Output width, 1 to 4096 pixels (default 480). The height follows the aspect ratio of the first frame |
| Colors | Maximum colors per frame: 256, 128, 64, 32 or 16. Fewer colors make a smaller file |
| Loop | Forever, play once, 2 times, 3 times or 5 times |
| Background | Fill color for transparent areas and for the empty space around frames with a different aspect ratio |
| Default delay (ms) | Delay given to newly added images (default 200ms) |
| FPS | Video only: frames per second to extract (5 to 30). Each video frame gets a delay of 1000 / FPS ms |
GIF stores delays in units of 10ms, so each delay is rounded to the nearest 10ms, with 20ms as the minimum, because browsers play delays of 10ms or less at 100ms. For example, a 15 fps clip gives 66.7ms per frame, which is saved as 70ms. The total length shown next to the frame count uses these rounded values.
No. Frames are extracted, scaled and encoded into a GIF in your browser.
Any video your browser can play, typically MP4 (H.264) and WebM. MOV files work when their codec is supported by the browser. The audio track is not used.
A GIF frame can contain at most 256 colors, so photos and videos with smooth gradients lose detail. Keep Colors at 256 for the best quality.
Lower the width, use fewer colors, choose a lower FPS, or shorten the clip. Width and frame count have the biggest effect on file size.
