Voice Recorder

Record your voice from the microphone, then trim, cut, fade, normalize and change the volume of the recording on its waveform, and download it as a WAV file. You can also open an existing audio file to edit it. Recording and editing happen entirely in your browser.

About this tool

What does the Voice Recorder do?

It records sound from your microphone and keeps a list of recordings. Select part of a recording on its waveform to play, cut or fade just that part, and download the result as a WAV file. Nothing is uploaded: the audio stays in your browser.

How to record

  1. Choose the microphone under Input (the list fills in after you allow microphone access).
  2. Click Record and allow the microphone. The level meter shows how loud the input is.
  3. Click Pause to pause and Resume to continue, then Stop to finish. The recording appears in the list.
  4. Turn on Voice processing for noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic volume (good for speech). Leave it off to record music as it is.

How to edit

  1. Pick a recording in the list. Its waveform appears.
  2. Drag on the waveform to select a range, or click to place the cursor. Play plays the selection, or from the cursor.
  3. Use the edit buttons:
    • Trim: keep only the selection
    • Delete: remove the selection
    • Silence: replace the selection with silence
    • Fade in / Fade out: fade the selection
    • Normalize: make the loudest point −1 dB (the selection, or the whole recording if nothing is selected)
    • +3 dB / −3 dB: make it louder or quieter
  4. Undo reverts the last edit. Rename a recording in the name field, and click WAV to download it.

FAQ

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Audio is captured and edited with the Web Audio API in your browser, and saved only in this browser.

Why WAV and not MP3?

WAV is uncompressed, so edits never lose quality and every browser can play it. One minute of mono audio is about 5 MB.

How long can I record?

Up to 30 minutes per recording.
