About this tool

What is Camera Capture?

Camera Capture turns your browser into a simple webcam recorder. It shows a live preview from your camera, records video with sound, and saves still photos, without installing an app. Recording is done with the browser's built-in MediaRecorder, so nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Click the play button in the middle of the preview, and allow camera and microphone access when the browser asks.
  2. Use the camera and speaker icons at the top right of the preview to turn the camera or the microphone on or off.
  3. Click Record (Video) to start recording. A red ●REC mark appears while recording.
  4. Click Stop & save (Video). The recording is downloaded as capture-YYYYMMDDHHmmss.webm (or .mp4).
  5. Click Capture (photo) at any time to save the current frame as a PNG image.
  6. Click the pause button in the middle of the preview to turn the camera off.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is recorded in your browser's memory and downloaded to your device when you stop recording.

Can I choose which camera to use?

The tool uses the camera your browser selects by default. To use another camera, change the camera for this site in your browser's settings and start the preview again.

Why can't I hear sound in the preview?

The preview is muted on purpose, because playing the microphone through your speakers causes howling. The sound is still recorded.

Is there a recording time limit?

There is no fixed limit, but the whole recording is kept in memory until you stop, so very long recordings may use a lot of memory. Split long sessions into shorter clips.
