Timer

Countdown timer with an alarm sound and quick presets, plus a Pomodoro mode that cycles through focus sessions, short breaks and long breaks. The end time is saved, so the timer keeps counting correctly in a background tab and after a reload.

About this tool

What does this timer do?

It counts down from a time you set and rings an alarm when it reaches zero. In Pomodoro mode it alternates focus sessions and breaks: after every few focus sessions you get a longer break. Nothing is sent anywhere; the timer runs in your browser.

How to use the timer

  1. Choose Timer at the top.
  2. Enter hours, minutes and seconds, or click a preset such as 3 min or 10 min.
  3. Click Start. Click Pause to stop counting and Resume to continue.
  4. When the time is up an alarm sounds. Click Stop alarm to silence it; it also stops by itself after one minute.
  5. Click Reset to go back to the time you set. +1 min adds a minute while the timer is counting.

How to use the Pomodoro timer

  1. Choose Pomodoro at the top.
  2. Set the length of a Focus session, a Short break and a Long break (25, 5 and 15 minutes by default), and how many focus sessions come before a long break.
  3. Click Start. When a phase ends, the alarm rings and the next phase is set up. Turn on Auto-start next to begin it without clicking.
  4. Skip jumps to the next phase. The count of finished focus sessions is shown, and Reset clears it.

FAQ

Will the alarm sound if the tab is in the background?

Yes, as long as the tab stays open and you started the timer by clicking (browsers only allow sound after a click). Some browsers delay timers in background tabs by up to about a second.

What happens if I reload or close the page?

The end time is saved, so the remaining time is correct when you come back. If the time ran out while the page was closed, the timer shows that it has finished, but the alarm cannot play while the page is closed.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

A time-management method: work with full focus for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break, and after four focus sessions take a longer 15–30 minute break.
