Video File Player

Play a video or audio file from your device in the browser with standard controls. The last file and playback position are remembered for next time. Plays the formats your browser supports, such as MP4, WebM and MP3. The file stays on your device and is never uploaded.

About this tool

What is the Video File Player?

The Video File Player plays video and audio files from your computer or phone in the browser, using the browser's built-in player. It remembers the file and where you stopped, so you can close the page and continue watching later from the same position.

How to use

  1. Drag a video or audio file onto the drop area, or click it to choose one.
  2. Playback starts automatically. Use the player controls to pause, seek, change the volume or switch to full screen.
  3. To play another file, click the folder icon below the player, or drop a new file onto the player.

Features

  • Plays video and audio files with the browser's native controls
  • Resumes from the last position: the position is saved every few seconds and whenever you pause or seek
  • The file name and size are shown below the player
  • Drag and drop to replace the current file

Supported formats

The browser's own decoder is used, so what plays depends on your browser and device.

SupportFormats
Usually playsMP4 (H.264), WebM (VP8 / VP9), MP3, WAV, Ogg, M4A
Depends on the browserMOV, MKV, H.265 / HEVC, AV1
Usually not playableAVI, WMV, FLV

If a file cannot be played, a message says so. Converting it to MP4 (H.264) is the most reliable fix.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded?

No. The file is played locally. To remember it, the file is saved in this browser's storage on your device; opening another file replaces it.

Why does it say the file cannot be played?

The format or codec is not supported by your browser. For example, AVI and WMV files and some H.265 videos do not play in most browsers. Try another browser or convert the file to MP4.

Is there a file size limit?

Playback works for large files, but the file is also saved in the browser's storage to resume later. If the file is larger than the browser allows, it may not be remembered after you close the page.
