Metronome

Free online metronome from 20 to 300 BPM. Set any time signature, accent or mute each beat, split beats into eighths, triplets or sixteenths, and tap to find a tempo. A speed trainer raises the tempo every few bars for practice. The clicks are scheduled with the Web Audio clock, so the timing stays steady.

FAQ

Is the timing accurate?

Yes. Each click is scheduled in advance on the audio clock of the Web Audio API instead of with a JavaScript timer, so the clicks do not wobble when the page is busy. When the tab is in the background, the clicks are scheduled further ahead so they keep playing.

What does BPM count in 6/8?

BPM counts the note value of the time signature, so in 6/8 it counts eighth notes. To feel 6/8 in two, set 2/4 with triplets instead.

How does the speed trainer work?

Turn on Speed trainer and choose how many bars to play at each tempo, how many BPM to add each time, and the target tempo. It starts at the tempo you set and stops increasing at the target. The current tempo is shown while it plays; stopping goes back to the starting tempo.

I can't hear anything.

Check that the volume is not 0, the beat is not muted, and your device is not in silent mode (on iPhone, the ring/silent switch also mutes web audio).
